HORRY COUNTY BIKE & RUN PARK
XTERRA GOES TO THE BEACH!
BATTLE THE HULK AT THE HORRY COUNTY BIKE & RUN PARK, MYRTLE BEACH, SC
Join us on Sunday, May 4, 2013 at the Horry County Bike and Run Park in Myrtle Beach, SC for XTERRA's most recent addition to their SC triathlon family!
The Horry County Bike & Run Park is the home of THE HULK! The HULK is an amusement park ride of a trail as it rocks, rolls, twists and turns for 6.2 miles beside the Intracoastal Waterway. It's yours to challenge during the mountain bike portion of the XTERRA Myrtle Beach Tri.
At 7:30 a.m, triathletes will hit the water for an 800 meter swim in the Intracoastal. After the swim, a short run to transition, you get to face THE HULK. Two laps (12.4 miles) is all it takes to tame this beast. Off the bike at transition for a 5 mile run that takes you out and back on a flat fire road.
USA TRIATHLON: XTERRA Myrtle Beach Triathlon is a USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned race. USAT rules will apply...including rules regarding use of wetsuits. To race, yu'll have to have an annual USAT license or obtain a 1 day license for $12.00. This can be obtained through the registration process but the $12.00 fee is not included in the race registration fee. You can also obtain an annual USAT license through the registration process BUT we ask that you don't. If you wish to obtain an annual USAT license, please do so throguh the USAT website www.usatriathlon.org. You will also find rules and regulations at the USAT web site as well....and you, as a racing triathlete, are responsible for knowing them!
THE SWIM: The swim is 800 meters in the salty Intracoastal Waterway though we reserve the right to modify it should water or weather conditions so warrant! We expect the water temperatures to be 70F+. Whether this will be a wetsuit swim will be determined race day. We will post updates here as we have them!
THE BIKE:-- THE HULK--The bike course is 12.4 miles. You will do 2 loops of THE HULK before returning to transition. THE HULK is a rolling trail with ruts and rocks and roots. It has it's share of single track but there are areas where passing can (and will) occur. We ask that those of you who may ride a little slower than others please don't block the trail and allow others to pass when it is safe for you to do so. Here's a link for info about THE HULK including a TRAIL MAP. (click here)
THE RUN: The run is on a flat fire road. It's out and back. Though flat, the terrain can be challenging!
